Artifact Booklet Directions

 

overview

Students will participate in an authentic task: anthropologist/archaeologist by identifying artifacts associated with each group in the foreigner’s matrix. Students will be given an envelope with artifacts in it and each student will need to identify one artifact associated with each foreign group 

For Example: the artifact  "money"

Students will associate this artifact with the traders because traders brought money and one negative impact of that was that money weakened the respect for chiefs because the chiefs got rich and the commoners became angry/envious (pg 37 textbook pacific neighbors)

 

 

 

1. Fold paper in half (hot dog)

2. Make 6 rows

3. Take artifacts out of envelope

4. Draw 6 of the artifacts on front (1 per row)

5. Inside write: name of artifact, which group it belongs to (beachcomber, whaler, trader, missionaries, or blackbirder) , explain how you know it belongs to this group, and explain why this group came to the islands.
